LENS: Learning, Empathising, Networking, Sharing Welcome to LENS, the JLL’s newest vehicle for member education and development. We officially launched LENS at our September 2009 General Meeting (click here to download President-Elect Meredith Niles’s remarks), and we are excited about how we can use this tool to help our members engage more concretely with our work in the community. Our recently adopted community focus of poverty is complex. The idea behind LENS is simple: we will break poverty down into more concrete sub-issues, such as employment or literacy, in order to better understand the drivers of and nuances within the issue of poverty, and we will explore poverty through a combination of different media, including experiential volunteering opportunities, book club discussions led by our LEAD committee, statistics shared through our internal communications, learning about what other organisations engaged with this issue are doing, and the real-life experiences of people living in poverty. During the Autumn of 2009, we’ll be taking a closer look at poverty through our first LENS: employment issues. Watch this space for further information about LENS and how you can get involved!
