47 New Members of Junior League of London Complete Volunteer Training Program
The Junior League of London (JLL) is proud to announce that 47 new members of Junior League of London have completed their volunteer training program. The new members include American, Brazilian, Norwegian, and British women with a variety of backgrounds and experiences. The women, aged 23-40, have come together to make an impact in the London community.
New Member Chair Lisa Bajardi says “At the start of the League year, we were trying to manage our expectations in the face of the global financial crisis and there was a concern that it would be more challenging to engage new volunteers. What a joy to have a record-breaking class of proactive, intelligent, and diverse women make the choice to join us. They have been a wealth of fresh ideas and with so many new and exciting happenings in the League – the new focus, the new committees, our 25th anniversary celebration – I am confident that they are a great group of women to take the organisation to new levels.”
These new members have already been busy making an impact on their community and contributing to the growth of the organisation. The new members worked together this Spring with Eaves Women’s Aid to host an afternoon of fun for over 50 women and children escaping domestic violence. The day included manicures and magazines for the mums and crafts and games like cake decorating, picture frame making, and shirt painting.
Recently the JLL new members gave a fresh look to the often-used crèche at the Cardinal Hume Centre through the painting of creative murals. The Cardinal Hume Centre works with young people, badly housed families, refugees, asylum seekers and migrants, helping them to obtain employment and to break out of the cycle of homelessness and social exclusion.
