JLL selected as Sainsbury’s Mayfair Local Charity of the Year!

29 July 2010

We are delighted to announce that the Junior League of London has been selected as Sainsbury’s Mayfair Local Charity Partner of the Year.  The JLL was selected through a vote taken of Sainsbury’s customers and store colleagues.

Sainsbury’s colleagues will work to support the JLL by giving their time and support to the charity, including through contributions to various JLL fundraising activities throughout the year.

Commenting on the relationship, Sophie Mbong, Charity Co-ordinator for Sainsbury’s Mayfair remarked:

“The Junior League of London really stood out as a charity worthy of our support because we really appreciate the fact that their volunteers work towards alleviating poverty in London. Many of us live and work in London and recognise it as the wealthiest region in the UK; however what we often don’t realise is that one third of all individuals and more than half of all children living in inner London live in poverty.  The Junior League of London is a membership based volunteer organisation that sends their volunteers into communities all across London to work on projects that fight poverty in our capital city.  We are looking forward to developing a strong relationship with the JLL and supporting them throughout the coming months.”

Sainsbury’s Mayfair Store Manager Tony Huegdon added:

“We are really pleased to support the Junior League of London. Our colleagues always get behind any fundraising activity that we have in store when they know a worthwhile cause will benefit. The hard work really starts now, but I can definitely see our store building a strong relationship with the Junior League of London.”

Echoing Sainsbury’s pleasure with the selection, JLL President Meredith Niles noted:

“We are so honoured to be selected by Sainsbury’s as their local charity of the year.  We look forward to developing our relationship with the staff at Sainsbury’s Mayfair and to working together to raise funds in support of our vision of a London where each person has the opportunity and means to prosper.”
