Junior League takes part in International Women’s Day Event at Three Trees Children’s Centre

Junior League President Jennifer Clarke was invited to speak at a celebration of International Women’s Day at the new Three Trees Children’s Centre in Kensal Rise. Three Trees is a centre for parents with children from 0-5s in Queens Park. Funding comes in part from Sure Start – who are now taking the approach of opening and helping to operate smaller, more local targeted centre’s, like Three Trees.

Jennifer addressed the gathering which included parents, children and other centre managers / charity workers and gave an informative talk on the history of the League and how the League helps thousands of people across the Capital each year.  Jennifer commented “I think the important role that women play in shaping and maintaining communities can often be underestimated.  I was delighted to speak at an event in specific honour of them “

A strong sense of community pervaded and all attendees enjoyed the educational yet fun celebrations. The rest of the programme included classical music sessions, henna tattooing and an African drumming session – showcasing the talent of some gifted and intelligent women.

The League has also been asked to participate at the Three Trees’ official launch on 21 May 2009.
