JLL’s Fabulous Five Run to Help the Fight Against Poverty!

The Junior League of London (JLL) is proud to announce that five of its members took part in the ASICS British 10K London Run which took place in London on Sunday 12 July 2009.

Members Dani Holt-Lyman, Joanna Iliff, Abbey Lin, Liz Murley and Ariel Speicher all donned their running shoes and joined tens of thousands of other runners to complete the course, which took them past such historic landmarks as Buckingham Palace, Tower Bridge and the Houses of Parliament.

Our fabulous five managed to raise a fantastic sum of money – just under £3,000!

Also on hand to help out were our very own Done In a Day volunteers who turned out to support the logistics of the event – handing out water and acting as baggage stewards and providing a smile and encouragement to weary runners!

The JLL extends its congratulations to the ladies and thanks them for their hard work and dedication. They have highlighted the true spirit of the League and helped to promote our profile in Greater London.

The combination of both runners participating and volunteers working is a perfect example of how special and unique the League is, and just how impactful it can be. Junior League of London President Sara Niedringhaus reflected:

“With homelessness and unemployment on the rise, the Junior League’s commitment to eliminating poverty and its effects in London is critical.  Our members are extremely dedicated to this cause, and it is through fundraising efforts such as this that we are able to fund our community programmes geared toward breaking the cycle of poverty through education and employment.”

This is the first year the League has been involved in such an event and we are pleased to announce that our debenture means we will be repeating the experience for the next two years.
If you are interested in running the race for JLL next year please get in touch with the office (jrleague@jll.org.uk) and register your interest!
